What is Tooth Scaling?

Tartar is plaque that has had time to harden and is that white (sometimes yellow) substance found at the base of the tooth just above the gum line. Tartar cannot be removed with standard brushing and flossing and requires professional treatment for proper and thorough removal.

Periodontal Maintenance Therapy is a service that involves using an instrument that is specifically designed to break-apart and remove plaque and tartar. We gently run the instrument along the front and back surfaces of teeth that have any signs of tartar which effectively cleans the gum line and smooths the tooth enamel. The interval of this therapy will vary based on your personal needs.

A prophy is a dental cleaning that happens typically every 6 months. This type of dental cleaning is performed on patients that have no history or current periodontal disease.
